The Dubai Future Foundation has partnered with the Roads and Transport Authority in an effort to keep Dubai in the running for the world’s smartest and most futuristic city. With this in mind, it was announced that smart self-driving cars will grace the city by 2030 to replace a quarter of their current road transportation system.
''By 2030, 25 percent of all transportation trips in Dubai will be smart and driverless. The strategy is projected to generate economic revenues and savings of up to Dh22 billion a year," His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said.
Ultimately, the strategy will reduce costs, reduce environmental pollution, and raise the efficiency of the transport sector (it will also greatly reduce the amount of driving that individuals will actually have to do, as the new technologies will, in effect, drive themselves).
It was also noted that the change will increase the productivity of individuals and save people a staggering 396 million hours of travel time on the road yearly. In addition to this, the use of artificial intelligence on the road will likely lead to a reduction of road accidents and the costs associated with them.
And although these advancements may yet be years away, the future is looking rather bright.
